In this project from the start, we have just left the starting blocks and are rounding the first bend.
We are working closely with the developer to flesh out all the detail.
The advisory team has included specialist geotechnical engineers, specialist marine structural engineers, marina designers, resource management planners, and river modelling specialists.
We are building to a key milestone to lodge critical resource consents.
From there we are looking at ground improvement works, revetment construction and bulk filling to raise the site to levels that will withstand flooding risks for the next 100 years.
Ultimately the project will deliver a marina basin with mooring for around 130 pleasure craft, a wharf for the commercial boats to load and unload, and moorings for around 25 commercial vessels.
On land there will be a versatile maintenance hardstand for vessels up to 100t.
The hardstand will be surrounded by specialist marine maintenance and fitout operators.
The wider commercial area will house a wide range of marine industry suppliers and support services.
For the public there will be a boat ramp and carparks area all secured in a restricted access site with leading edge security, so you can go out for a day's fishing secure in the knowledge you trailer and tow car will still be there when you get home.
Close to Opotiki, Whakatane, Gisborne and Rotorua, and with an all weather 24/7 entrance, this facility is set to revolutionise the marine industry in the eastern bay of plenty. Keep watching as we go forward, and updates gets posted here.
Heretaunga Plains Flood Protection Scheme
Listening to the public, Hawkes Bay Regional Council has embarked on bold project to increase the level of service of the flood protection scheme from 1 in 100yr storm protection to 1 in 500yr.
With four rivers covering an area of around 39,000ha and containing some 127,000 people, the scheme is significant.
After building comprehensive models, calibrating those and developing a design storm, the high risk points along the rivers have been identified.
Now the work begins.
With support from central government, HBRC are now pushing forward at pace to complete as much of the project as possible in the next three years.
Inspiratus Solutions are working inhouse with the Engineering and Project Management teams to push the preparatory work along, close out the loose ends, and provide technical leadership.
